OUR STORY

Poultry Gardens is located in Central Minnesota Lakes area and we have been involved in farming for more than three decades.  We take pride in breeding and raising exquisite, top-notch poultry and game birds.

 

Our fondness for these birds started when Carmen received a magnificent peacock named Bentley for her birthday.   Our livestock previously had included horses, goats, hair sheep, and backyard chickens.  We currently raise peafowl, pheasants, and a small variety of rare chicken breeds and colors.   

 

After Bentley, the same year, we also inherited a hen, Ferrari, which is still located on our farm today.  Unfortunately, a predator took Bentley from his roost, but we quickly found a new mate for Ferrari and have continued to add to the peafowl garden ever since.  Peafowl generally enjoy hanging around looking for handouts, but we do have one peahen that is quick to demand a head and neck rub as well.   We hope you enjoy the video of Sarah on the peafowl page.

 

When we first decided to add chickens, we ordered some large hatchery stock and quickly found we did not get the quality of birds we had seen in pictures depicting the breeds we wanted.  Research started and we found if you wanted birds that truly represented the gorgeous pictures across the world, it would be from breeders who specialized in that breed and the search began for quality breeding lines in our birds.  We initially added the Brahma garden after seeing pre-school grandkids hauling some Isabel Brahma hens around and realizing that although they were very large, they were docile and mellow.   We now offer a handful of rare and specialty color chickens. 

 

So.... as chicken or feather math, would have it, we dove into various poultry, genetics, and rare colored birds.  Some we have kept and others we have not.  We are always happy to discuss poultry and game birds to share the tips, tricks and knowledge we have gained in raising them as well as continue to gain knowledge from other breeders.  It is important to know what species and type of birds are right for your purpose and lifestyle.  We take pride in ongoing support of our customers and their goals.

 

We offer chicks and hatching eggs when they are available.  Our primary chicken breeds currently include Rare Brahma colors and color projects, Silver Spangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben, English Chocolate/Chocolate Mottled Orphington, French Black Copper Marans,  various peafowl, Golden Pheasants, and calling ducks.  We hope to offer Mandarin Ducks, Lady Amhurste Pheasant, and Peach Pheasant in 2025. 

 

We welcome you to check on visits to our farm and witness our dedication to farming and raising poultry.  We do require qualifications and only offer a limited number of visits with biosecurity measures that are absolutely mandatory.  It is always priority to keep our birds safe!
